How to Complete Form ID1

Form ID1 is used to verify the identity of an individual for certain HM Land Registry applications. If your identity is checked remotely by video call, form ID5 is also completed by the conveyancer who carries out the verification.

What is form ID1?

Form ID1 is used to support applications to HM Land Registry where an individual’s identity needs to be verified. This commonly applies where a person is not represented by a conveyancer in a property transaction or Land Registry application.

At ID Verification Online, we can complete the ID1 verification process remotely by WhatsApp video call. Where the verification is carried out remotely, we will also complete form ID5.

What you need ready before your ID1 appointment

During the appointment, which will take place by WhatsApp video call, you will need to show either one of the following:

  • Current valid passport;
  • Current UK, EU, Isle of Man or Channel Islands driving licence;
  • Current Biometric Residence Permit issued by the UK Home Office.

Alternatively, you will need to show two of the following, but no more than one of each type:

  • Credit card issued in the UK, supported by a postal account statement no more than 3 months old;
  • A postal utility bill dated within the last 3 months;
  • Council Tax bill for the current year;
  • Council rent book showing the rent paid for the last 3 months;
  • Postal mortgage statement for the year just ended;
  • Current firearms or shotgun certificate.

You do not need to send us copies of your ID documents before the appointment. However, during the call we will take screenshots of your ID documents, which we are required to retain.

If you do not have the required documents available, we will not be able to complete the appointment.

Information needed for the Land Registry application

Because form ID1 is used to support an application to HM Land Registry, we will also need:

  • The type of application, such as a transfer, mortgage, easement or other Land Registry application;
  • The address of the property to which the application relates;
  • The Land Registry title number, if available.

If you are not sure about the type of application or do not have the title number, we can discuss this during the appointment.

Personal details required for form ID1

We will also need to confirm the following personal details:

  • Your full name;
  • Your date of birth;
  • Your current address;
  • Your previous address or addresses, if you have moved in the last 5 years;
  • Your telephone number.

What happens during the ID1 video appointment?

We will start by asking you to confirm the relevant details. We will complete the forms as we progress through the call.

We will then take a screenshot of you holding your ID documents. Both you and the documents must be clearly visible. If you are using two forms of ID, we may need to take two screenshots.

We are required to retain these images indefinitely.

What happens after the appointment?

After the appointment, we will print forms ID1 and ID5. We will sign and date the ID5 and post both documents to you.

You will need to sign the ID1. You can then combine the forms and submit them to HM Land Registry with your application.

Important points about ID1 and ID5 forms

  1. You will need a separate ID1 and ID5 for each individual who is a party to the transaction;
  2. You cannot reuse the forms, as they relate to a specific application and cannot be used for multiple applications;
  3. The forms, including the ID5 which we date, must be no more than 3 months old on the day you submit your application to HM Land Registry.

Please bear this in mind if you are not ready to submit your application when you make the appointment.
